I shot this essay in grad school as part of an assignment. Mike Bilski works for the New York City Department of Sanitation, and in his spare time, he drives around residential Queens making people happy in his 1966 drop-top Mercury Comet. Towards the end of my day with him, he said he had to make a stop to pick up his wife from a renal clinic where she was receiving dialysis treatment. She needed a kidney transplant, and Mike was desperately looking for anyone who would donate. He called me a few days later to let me know she had finally found a donor, a true Christmas miracle.
